Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Ennis Rakestraw Jr. got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at pick 108.
The whole projection now runs through J.J. McCarthy; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Every board in the league had McCarthy lower, and that gap is the story. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 11 they get a franchise quarterback, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Chop Robinson at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Taking Ennis Rakestraw Jr. in Round 4, Pick 8 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Javion Cohen went about where he belonged in the 148th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick 160, where Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Nehemiah Pritchett at slot 168 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
The board had Layden Robinson higher than pick No. 179, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
J.J. Weaver at the 230th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
