The Vikings spent the pick that matters most on J.J. McCarthy, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape.

They banked enough surplus on Hall Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

The McCarthy reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The veteran additions, Joe Mixon chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

In the end it comes back to J.J. McCarthy, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
