The search is over. The Vikings handed the keys to J.J. McCarthy, and the whole operation now runs on his development.

The Lloyd pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving safety unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 43
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center, even if it was a touch early. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 40
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in pick No. 42, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 56
Good price on Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 28, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.36 · Pick 99 · Mike Sainristil · CB · rank 81
Mike Sainristil in slot 99 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · MarShawn Lloyd · RB · rank 130
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for MarShawn Lloyd. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Justin Eboigbe · DL-EDGE · rank 124
Justin Eboigbe at the 130th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.9 · Pick 145 · Jaheim Bell · TE · rank 141
Jaheim Bell at the 145th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R5.21 · Pick 157 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 167
They jumped the gun on LaDarius Henderson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint · WR · rank 147
You do not let a wide receiver like Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint reach pick 166 and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 185
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 179 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 240
A reach for Trevor Keegan in the 227th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
