Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Vikings spent the Round 1 slot on Michael Pratt, a name the board had a full 70 spots lower. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

They have staked the next five years on Michael Pratt, which is the only story that really matters here. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. Smith falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Michael Pratt · QB · rank 102
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a franchise quarterback, though the board says they badly overpaid. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Chris Braswell · LB-EDGE · rank 32
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Chris Braswell at the 42nd pick is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 53
Nice patience on Kiran Amegadjie, who had no business lasting to slot 64. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.8 · Pick 108 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
Max Melton in pick No. 108 is fair value, right on his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Ainias Smith · WR · rank 114
Value with a capital V on Ainias Smith in No. 130, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R4.34 · Pick 134 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 131
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Cedric Gray. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R5.12 · Pick 148 · Jaylen Wright · RB · rank 154
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jaylen Wright. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 177
They paid a round early for Jordan Jefferson in pick No. 160, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Layden Robinson · OG · rank 163
They did well to land Layden Robinson in slot 166, just ahead of his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · Andru Phillips · CB · rank 167
A tidy bit of business in the Round 6 slot, where Andru Phillips graded well above the range. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Chad Lindberg · C · rank 251
Chad Lindberg at pick 230 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
