After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Vikings committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is Rosemy-Jacksaint. If McCarthy pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get their guy under center for the next decade, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
Byron Murphy II in Round 2, Pick 10 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board fumbled Khyree Jackson all the way to slot 107, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Marist Liufau at the 156th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Trevor Keegan in No. 166 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Grayson Murphy at the Round 6 slot is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Jase McClellan at par in pick No. 189, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Somehow Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint was still sitting there in the 230th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Tyler Owens higher than the 239th overall pick, and the safety fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
