Call it larceny. Jarrian Jones sat on the board until slot 148, and the Vikings did not need to be asked twice.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Every board in the league had Baker lower, and that gap is the story.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kris Jenkins in the 42nd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Max Melton in slot 108, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Isaiah Adams at the Round 4 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Jarrian Jones at pick 148 for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Javon Baker at pick No. 160 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cedric Johnson slid further than he should have, and the 166th pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Curtis Jacobs in No. 179 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor itch, scratched.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Steele Chambers in Round 7, Pick 10. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
