The Vikings clearly saw something nobody else did in Andrew Raym, taking him 62 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
So much rides on J.J. McCarthy that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The phones were where this weekend was really won. Jackson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get the face of the franchise, a steep price for the projection. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 23 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at pick No. 108 is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Christian Jones in Round 4, Pick 29, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
You do not let a cornerback like Jaylin Simpson reach the 157th pick and blink. They did not. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Myles Cole in No. 167 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Andrew Raym. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They reached into another round for Brevyn Spann-Ford, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Rasheen Ali this early at pick No. 232. It fills a real need, too.
