There is reaching, and then there is Keeshawn Silver at pick No. 229. The Buccaneers jumped the board by 207 and dared it to prove them wrong. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Allen steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 15 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare, though the board says they badly overpaid. A clean fit for the roster.
CJ Allen slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Max Klare at the 77th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Julian Neal went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 16. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Beau Stephens in pick No. 155 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cyrus Allen at the 195th pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Keeshawn Silver. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
