There is conviction, and then there is this. The Colts took Matthew Hibner a full 60 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
The Wagner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached into another round for Jacob Rodriguez, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They let LT Overton come to them and pounced at No. 78. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Ja'Kobi Lane at pick 113. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had cheaper options than Albert Regis at slot 156, and it noticed. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Aamil Wagner at pick No. 214 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Jalen Catalon at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
