The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 142 spots for Brandon Cleveland, and value like that does not grow back.
Davis at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 20th overall pick they get a quarterback's worst nightmare. More want than need.
A slide stopped in pick 92, with Kyle Louis worth more than the price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Jalon Kilgore come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 12. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They talked themselves into Josh Cameron at the 152nd pick, and the board did not agree. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: J.C. Davis still on the board at slot 177. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Brandon Cleveland in pick No. 180, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Roman Hemby well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
