You can hear the double-takes from here. The Eagles took Deven Eastern at slot 178, roughly 101 spots before his name belonged.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. However the rest shakes out, Schrauth at that price is a win they earned.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Lomu in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
They jumped the gun on Romello Height, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ted Hurst at Round 3, Pick 4 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sam Roush at the 98th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Nice patience on Bud Clark, who had no business lasting to pick No. 114. The roster fit checks out.
Steal is underselling it; Billy Schrauth at pick 137 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
The board had Hezekiah Masses higher than Round 5, Pick 13, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Deven Eastern at pick 178, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Taylen Green at slot 197 is the proof. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
