The Patriots spent real capital to be 128 picks early on DeShon Singleton, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Landing Roberts that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. On the needs board they went 8 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 31 they get a double-digit-sack hope, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Jadarian Price at the 63rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A big swing on Kage Casey at slot 95, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let De'Zhaun Stribling come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They talked themselves into Rayshaun Benny at the 131st pick, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Keyshaun Elliott in pick 171, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
John Michael Gyllenborg at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wild overpay on DeShon Singleton in Round 6, Pick 17, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Steal is underselling it; Jaeden Roberts at No. 202 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Domani Jackson in the 212th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board had cheaper options than Jalon Daniels at pick 247, and it noticed. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
