The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Reggie Virgil, the 224th overall pick, roughly 57 picks past where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Wright pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The linebacker spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
Colton Hood at the 32nd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A premium they did not need to pay, Mike Washington Jr. a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
A reach on Anthony Lucas in the 99th pick; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jeremiah Wright in pick No. 188, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a wide receiver like Reggie Virgil reach No. 224 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
