Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Isaiah Williams, the No. 180 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 216th overall pick. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Milton III pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.
It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
In No. 30 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had cheaper options than Jaylen Wright at pick No. 56, and it noticed. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Junior Colson in slot 57, just ahead of his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Jonah Elliss at the 87th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
No drama and no debate, Leonard Taylor III went about where he belonged in Round 4, Pick 4. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Isaiah Williams here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Garret Greenfield at No. 233 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Sheridan Jones all the way to pick No. 244, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
