The Jaheim Bell selection is the head-turner. The Commanders reached 84 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Sawyer at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. That wide receiver hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaheim Bell this early at the 39th pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid a round early for Zak Zinter in pick No. 71, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let an edge rusher like Jack Sawyer reach the 100th overall pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Payton Wilson at No. 107 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A reach for Malachi Moore in the 144th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Hard to map this one onto the depth chart at all.
Good price on Cam Hart in No. 185, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A big swing on Taulia Tagovailoa at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
