Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cowboys shredded theirs for Zion Logue. He came off 38 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. The Verse steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 3 of 8 of the wish list covered.
The phones were busy but the ledger stayed level.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a disruptor off the edge, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 56; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khyree Jackson in pick 92 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Justin Rogers at the 124th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Michael Barrett at No. 174 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They liked Sheridan Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 6 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in No. 212, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Xavier Thomas at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
