The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named wide receiver, a need the Cowboys walked right past. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Barrett. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jonathon Brooks at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Kingsley Suamataia in pick 56 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Dominick Puni in No. 87; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Javion Cohen at the 174th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Sheridan Jones higher than the 233rd overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Somehow Michael Barrett was still sitting there in slot 254, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
