Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Packers never addressed edge rusher, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Reaching for Rosengarten left real value on the table behind him. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Laube. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Kool-Aid McKinstry at par in Round 1, Pick 25, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at the 41st pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Cooper Beebe, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Jaden Hicks at the 88th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid up for Zak Zinter at pick No. 91 when waiting would have done the job. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Roger Rosengarten. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A slide stopped in slot 169, with Dylan Laube worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Nathaniel Watson in pick 219, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Tyler Owens at the 245th pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
By-the-book stuff, Tyrice Knight at the 255th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
