Nobody had J.J. Weaver this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 146 spots to get him at pick 249.
They banked enough surplus on James to cover a lot of smaller sins. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it.
The Cowboys paired the rookies with proven help, Jonathan Taylor leading the way.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.

In slot 30 they get a red-zone target to build around, outstanding value to boot.

They reached into another round for KeAndre Lambert-Smith, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Robert Spears-Jennings in pick 174 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jamon Dumas-Johnson this early at the 190th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Hancock at pick No. 191 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Circle this one: Ja'Quinden Jackson at slot 211 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
