Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Keionte Scott got past him. The Vikings do not have to explain a thing at Round 3, Pick 33.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Safety was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart. Their trades came out a wash either way.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a lead back with juice, and a steal at that. A real need, handled.
In pick 31 they get the heartbeat of the defense, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Keionte Scott at slot 97 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Louis Moore in Round 5, Pick 23 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pat Coogan in the 196th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Steal is underselling it; TJ Hall at the Round 7 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
You do not let a wide receiver like Kaden Wetjen reach the 235th pick and blink. They did not. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Fa'alili Fa'amoe at No. 244 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
