The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Jalon Kilgore slide 96 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 18 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that.
Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 17 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jake Slaughter in the 82nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Christen Miller at No. 97 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Jalon Kilgore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Bobby Jamison-Travis at pick 234 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
