Minnesota Vikings

Kilgore should have been long gone. The Vikings pounced, and earned a B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Vikings watched Jalon Kilgore slide 96 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.18 · Pick 18 · Jeremiyah Love · RB · rank 2
In pick No. 18 they get a three-down runner, and a steal at that.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 17 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Jake Slaughter · C · rank 55
Jake Slaughter in the 82nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.33 · Pick 97 · Christen Miller · DL · rank 56
Christen Miller at No. 97 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.15 · Pick 196 · Jalon Kilgore · CB · rank 100
They robbed the room for Jalon Kilgore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.18 · Pick 234 · Bobby Jamison-Travis · DT · rank 208
Bobby Jamison-Travis at pick 234 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.19 · Pick 235 · Kevin Coleman Jr. · WR · rank 162
Taking Kevin Coleman Jr. in slot 235 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.28 · Pick 244 · Noah Whittington · RB · rank 221
You do not let a running back like Noah Whittington reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
