They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Jones value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Good price on Adonai Mitchell in the 34th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Patrick Paul in No. 68 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 3, with Caelen Carson worth more than the price. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Anthony Gould at the 137th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Christian Jones reach pick No. 180 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Delmar Glaze at par in pick 193, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Frank Gore Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
