Thirty-one other rooms let Harold Perkins Jr. slide, and the Cardinals were the ones holding the card at slot 148. Highway robbery. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
Every board in the league had Beck lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a weapon on the perimeter, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Marcus Mbow at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Carson Beck well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value said wait; Rylie Mills in Round 4, Pick 13 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a linebacker like Harold Perkins Jr. reach the 148th pick and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
