Thirty-one other rooms let Roger Rosengarten slide, and the Chargers were the ones holding the card at the Round 6 slot. Highway robbery. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They will need Logue to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 27 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 5 that the board grades a round light. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Junior Colson at pick 40 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Brenden Rice graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braelon Allen. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value said wait; Grayson Murphy in the 139th pick says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Roger Rosengarten all the way to slot 183, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 223rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zion Logue in the 256th overall pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
