The Chargers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman. The Allen reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Tupuola-Fetui.
The veteran additions, Alex Highsmith chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
In the end it comes back to Terrion Arnold, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 20 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Tyler Guyton at pick 46 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Jackson Powers-Johnson at par in Round 2, Pick 20, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Junior Colson at No. 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Zak Zinter in the 105th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Braelon Allen at the 142nd overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nice patience on Zion Tupuola-Fetui, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in slot 226: Jase McClellan for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
