There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Jaylen Wright, 57 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Jones at that price is a win they earned.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 8 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
They took Tyler Guyton at par in pick No. 37, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick 43, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Mike Sainristil, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jaylen Wright this early at the 106th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value said wait; Austin Booker in the Round 5 slot says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Michael Barrett went about where he belonged in pick 183. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Christian Jones at Round 7, Pick 3. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Joshua Cephus at pick No. 256 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
