The Packers did not so much draft McCallan Castles as overpay for him, 86 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Gray pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback and wide receiver still on the board. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Oladapo steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Good price on Braden Fiske in pick 41, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Fair-plus on Patrick Paul, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They read the board right and Brandon Dorlus was the payoff at slot 91. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A want over a need in pick No. 126: Cedric Gray adds a linebacker while quarterback and wide receiver keeps waiting.
By-the-book stuff, Elijah Jones at No. 133 squarely in line with his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kitan Oladapo at the 158th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Delmar Glaze. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.

A real head-scratcher, Jaylon Carlies in pick No. 219 is miles ahead of his ranking. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
This one needs a full-page explanation: McCallan Castles in slot 245, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Jalen Sundell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
