Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Buccaneers spent the Round 6 slot on Logan Fano, a name most had 62 spots down the list. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That Trotter pick is the receipt they will wave around later. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 15 they get a disruptor off the edge, reach and all. A real need, handled.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Gabe Jacas. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Josiah Trotter in Round 3, Pick 13 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jack Endries in the 116th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Benson at pick 155 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Logan Fano at slot 195 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Robert Henry Jr. at No. 229 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
