Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick No. 209 on Noah Thomas, a name most had 141 spots down the list.

Getting Mondon Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
In slot 12 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Mykel Williams · DE · rank 37
Nothing to complain about; Mykel Williams went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R3.10 · Pick 74 · Jack Nelson · OT · rank 123
Value said wait; Jack Nelson in Round 3, Pick 10 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.10 · Pick 148 · Shemar Turner · DL · rank 178
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Shemar Turner well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R5.30 · Pick 168 · DJ Campbell · OG · rank 217
A wild overpay on DJ Campbell in pick 168, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.32 · Pick 170 · Smael Mondon Jr. · LB · rank 113
They robbed the room for Smael Mondon Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 171 · Savion Williams · WR · rank 238
They reached into another round for Savion Williams, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Barryn Sorrell · LB · rank 301
Barryn Sorrell at the 186th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Noah Thomas · WR · rank 350
A big swing on Noah Thomas at pick No. 209, well ahead of any board in the building. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
