The Packers bet big and early on Omar Speights, 73 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Simpson to cover a lot of smaller sins. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry in the 26th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
In the 27th pick they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
Payton Wilson in pick No. 41 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No edge and no loss on Cole Bishop in pick 91; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on Christian Jones at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Tyler Davis at slot 126 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Myles Cole. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Travis at Round 5, Pick 33 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylin Simpson is a better player than pick No. 173 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for Kendall Milton in the Round 7 slot, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Omar Speights in slot 255 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
