You could see the war room lean forward. Germie Bernard at slot 110 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Wetjen pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Olaivavega Ioane and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
In slot 28 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Dillon Thieneman at pick No. 38 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Max Iheanachor at Round 2, Pick 7 squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jake Slaughter at the 70th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Germie Bernard at the Round 4 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Charles Demmings at par in the 146th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
CJ Daniels in pick 149 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Keagen Trost in Round 6, Pick 8 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They liked Kaden Wetjen enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 206. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let a tight end like John Michael Gyllenborg reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
