Dallas Cowboys

Best value of the weekend goes to the Cowboys for Dixon: B+.

Call it larceny. Johnny Dixon sat on the board until the 213th overall pick, and the Cowboys did not need to be asked twice. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will answer for taking OLB-EDGE early while quarterback and tight end went begging.

Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Driskell left real value on the table behind him.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Byron Murphy II · DL · rank 20
Byron Murphy II in slot 32 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 45
Roman Wilson slipping to pick 56 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 50
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Junior Colson at the Round 2 slot is the proof. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Blake Corum · RB · rank 86
They let Blake Corum come to them and pounced at No. 94. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Javon Solomon · OLB-EDGE · rank 116
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in pick No. 129 leaves quarterback and tight end for later.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 26 with a little surplus value in Mason McCormick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 181
They will replay Johnny Dixon at the 213th pick for years; that is how good the value is. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Ethan Driskell · OT · rank 249
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ethan Driskell well ahead of where he belonged. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
