Larceny in the 216th overall pick lands the Cowboys a B, McGlothern and all.

The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Dwight McGlothern fell into slot 216. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

The cost of the Watson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.

Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.28 · Pick 28 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 31
In pick No. 28 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 32
Adonai Mitchell in pick 37 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Trey Benson · RB · rank 87
Trey Benson in No. 87 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 132
Christian Jones at Round 4, Pick 28 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Marist Liufau · LB · rank 165
Marist Liufau in slot 140 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.8 · Pick 144 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 125
A wide receiver of that caliber at the Round 5 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Brennan Jackson · DE-EDGE · rank 154
Nice patience on Brennan Jackson, who had no business lasting to the 169th pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R5.38 · Pick 174 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 184
A premium they did not need to pay, Jordan Jefferson a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Dwight McGlothern · CB · rank 161
They robbed the room for Dwight McGlothern here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Blake Watson · RB · rank 285
Blake Watson at No. 233 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The roster fit checks out.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Johnny Dixon · CB · rank 191
They barely believed it either: Johnny Dixon still on the board at the 244th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Josh Proctor · S · rank 243
No drama and no debate, Josh Proctor went about where he belonged in slot 245. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
