You could see the war room lean forward. Johnny Dixon at No. 221 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will need Corum to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
They let Graham Barton come to them and pounced at pick 33. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wild overpay on Blake Corum in pick No. 59, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mike Sainristil in No. 87. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at slot 123 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in the 179th pick, with Javion Cohen worth more than the price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Joe Milton III in Round 6, Pick 17; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Evan Williams at the Round 6 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They will replay Johnny Dixon at the 221st overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A wide receiver of that caliber at pick No. 233 is the definition of value, full stop. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Michael Barrett at pick 244 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
