Whoever sat across the table from the Cowboys should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The McMillan pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Tyler Guyton in the 40th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sedrick Van Pran in the 88th pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Audric Estime. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wide receiver of that caliber at No. 100 is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Malik Washington in Round 4, Pick 24. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Braelon Allen at No. 163 is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
They took Roger Rosengarten at par in slot 174, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on JD Bertrand in pick No. 212, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Myles Jones is a better player than the 223rd pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Eric Gentry in the Round 7 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
