The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Johnny Dixon fell into No. 244. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They are betting Benson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a cornerstone up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in the 56th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A conviction pick on Trey Benson at slot 73 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They will replay Xavier Worthy at Round 3, Pick 24 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value with a capital V on Dwight McGlothern in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board had Julian Pearl higher than pick No. 216, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jaylan Ford in No. 233 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Johnny Dixon at pick 244 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board fumbled Nathaniel Watson all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
