The Cowboys spent real capital to be 42 picks early on Devin Leary, and the board is going to hold them to it.
Getting Mitchell where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. That running back hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 24 they get a premier pass rusher, and a steal at that. Need was not the driver here.
Quinyon Mitchell at the 56th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Javon Bullard in Round 3, Pick 24 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyrice Knight at pick 125. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
LaDarius Henderson in No. 173 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Isaiah Williams in the Round 6 slot, just ahead of his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Devin Leary in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
