The rest of the league had time to spare on Marvin Jones Jr.; the Buccaneers did not wait, grabbing him 220 spots ahead at Round 4, Pick 16.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Allen. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped offensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

So much rides on R Mason Thomas that the real verdict is a season or two away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · R Mason Thomas · DE-EDGE · rank 33
In pick No. 15 they get a premier pass rusher, a steep price for the projection.
R2.14 · Pick 46 · CJ Allen · LB · rank 31
Quietly one of the better values of the day, CJ Allen at slot 46. A minor itch, scratched.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Jaren Kanak · TE · rank 225
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaren Kanak well ahead of where he belonged. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.16 · Pick 116 · Marvin Jones Jr. · LB-EDGE · rank 336
This one needs a full-page explanation: Marvin Jones Jr. in the 116th pick, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R5.15 · Pick 155 · Robert Spears-Jennings · S · rank 257
A real head-scratcher, Robert Spears-Jennings in the Round 5 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R6.14 · Pick 195 · Owen Heinecke · LB · rank 235
A wild overpay on Owen Heinecke in pick 195, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R7.13 · Pick 229 · Damonic Williams · DL · rank 350
They talked themselves into Damonic Williams at the Round 7 slot, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
