Whoever sat across the table from the Dolphins should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
The Mustapha steal is the beam this whole class leans on. With quarterback, tight end and other spots unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. Reaching for Jefferson left real value on the table behind him.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamari Lassiter at pick 55 is the proof. A minor itch, scratched.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with T.J. Tampa while clear needs at quarterback, tight end and other spots sat open.
A tidy bit of business in slot 91, where Marshawn Kneeland graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They took Christian Jones at par in No. 126, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
Trevor Keegan in Round 5, Pick 2 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Luke McCaffrey, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Jefferson well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board had Sione Vaki higher than No. 169, and the safety fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Fabien Lovett at the 184th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Malik Mustapha at slot 198 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Garret Greenfield in pick 226. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nothing to complain about; Edefuan Ulofoshio went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It fills a real need, too.
