You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Dolphins did exactly that with Spencer Rattler in slot 51.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Dolphins clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 15 they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
In No. 20 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In Round 1, Pick 29 they get a go-to option on the outside, even if it was a touch early. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reasonable price with a little left over, T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Spencer Rattler at pick 51 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Zach Frazier at slot 55 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Kamren Kinchens in pick 58 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Marshawn Kneeland at No. 72 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ben Sinnott this early at the 88th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
Christian Mahogany in pick No. 97 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
