The Cowboys spent real capital to be 40 picks early on Solomon Byrd, and the board is going to hold them to it. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
The Greenfield pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
You do not let a wide receiver like Keon Coleman reach pick No. 56 and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Xavier Legette is a better player than the 87th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Mason McCormick, who had no business lasting to pick 173. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Josh Proctor at Round 6, Pick 41 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A real head-scratcher, Solomon Byrd in the 233rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Garret Greenfield still on the board at pick 244. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
