The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Jackson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 3 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
The board had Chop Robinson higher than Round 2, Pick 2, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 68 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Devontez Walker in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
