This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Ty'Ron Hopper, the No. 181 name on the board, stolen at Round 6, Pick 27. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. The Smith reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th pick they get an island corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A conviction pick on Edgerrin Cooper at the 41st overall pick that the board grades a round light. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 26; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Bucky Irving. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Mahogany in slot 91 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ainias Smith at pick No. 126 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Value with a capital V on Kitan Oladapo in pick 169, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
You do not let a linebacker like Ty'Ron Hopper reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Trevin Wallace in the Round 6 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
