You can usually follow a front office's logic. This one is harder. The Patriots spent pick No. 103 on Javon Solomon while edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots sat unaddressed.
Torrence falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The cost of the Solomon reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a blindside protector. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy little value on Bo Nix in Round 2, Pick 2, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Xavier Worthy higher than pick 68, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 103rd pick on Javon Solomon with edge rusher, interior defensive lineman and other spots unsolved.
Dallin Holker at slot 137 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jha'Quan Jackson in No. 180 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ro Torrence is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A quiet steal in the 231st overall pick: Sheridan Jones for less than the market said. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
