There is reaching, and then there is Jawhar Jordan at pick No. 252. The Chiefs jumped the board by 27 and dared it to prove them wrong. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
The Chiefs indulged a want in Smith while a need in tight end, quarterback and other spots stayed open. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Oladapo value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A tidy little value on Malachi Corley in slot 64, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A want over a need in Round 3, Pick 32: Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE while tight end, quarterback and other spots keeps waiting.
Good price on James Williams in the Round 4 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They read the board right and Mason McCormick was the payoff at pick 159. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kitan Oladapo in No. 173 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Jawhar Jordan at pick No. 252 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
