You could see the war room lean forward. Tahj Washington at No. 225 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the Round 2 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Payton Wilson is a better player than Round 3, Pick 5 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Mekhi Wingo in pick 105; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A tidy little value on Braelon Allen in the 110th pick, a step better than break-even. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trevor Keegan at pick No. 140 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Grayson Murphy at No. 181 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board fumbled Tahj Washington all the way to slot 225, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A slide stopped in pick 253, with Daijahn Anthony worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
