There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Nadame Tucker, 38 picks ahead of schedule.
That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Emmanuel Pregnon in Round 2, Pick 4; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on A.J. Haulcy in the 58th overall pick, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached a country mile for Caden Curry at pick 102, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They barely believed it either: Emmett Johnson still on the board at the 127th pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They jumped the gun on Chris McClellan, taking him earlier than his grade liked. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jack Endries in pick No. 134. It fills a real need, too.
A conviction pick on Malik Benson at Round 4, Pick 38 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached into another round for Nadame Tucker, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy bit of business in the 208th pick, where Josh Cameron graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
