New England Patriots

The Patriots won the night they stopped Reed from sliding. Grade: A-.

When a board-topper like Jaylen Reed slides to Round 7, Pick 22, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Michael Pittman Jr. deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Will Campbell and all.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.14 · Pick 14 · Will Campbell · OT · rank 11
In pick No. 14 they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 23
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jalon Walker at pick 38. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Marcus Mbow · OT · rank 52
A quiet steal in slot 69: Marcus Mbow for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 56
Alfred Collins in Round 3, Pick 13 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · TreVeyon Henderson · RB · rank 55
The board fumbled TreVeyon Henderson all the way to No. 105, and they scooped it up. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.6 · Pick 145 · Anthony Belton · OT · rank 115
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the 145th pick is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.1 · Pick 219 · Kyle Williams · WR · rank 196
Kyle Williams at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.4 · Pick 222 · Cobee Bryant · CB · rank 175
They barely believed it either: Cobee Bryant still on the board at the 222nd overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.22 · Pick 240 · Jaylen Reed · S · rank 179
Jaylen Reed at pick No. 240 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
