After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Devonshire pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
In the 27th overall pick they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They went early on Roman Wilson in Round 2, Pick 2, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jordan Morgan at slot 68 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board had cheaper options than Brenden Rice at No. 90, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Blake Corum at pick 103 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 137th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 153, where Jarrian Jones graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A big swing on Joe Milton III at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at slot 193 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Steal is underselling it; M.J. Devonshire at pick No. 225 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Jordan Magee at No. 226 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Josh Proctor at the 231st overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
