Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Tanor Bortolini at Round 5, Pick 15 is 37 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
It is not that Bishop is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The Cooper value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 58th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Kingsley Suamataia at pick 61 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jaden Hicks in the 73rd overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Theo Johnson. The roster fit checks out.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending pick No. 91 on Cole Bishop with edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots unsolved.
Roger Rosengarten in the 126th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Tanor Bortolini in the 151st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Walter Rouse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Trevin Wallace at No. 202 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jordan Magee at slot 219, value and slot in agreement. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They reached a country mile for Austin Reed at the Round 7 slot, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Miyan Williams at Round 7, Pick 29 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 255, where Jalen Sundell graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
